Baton Rouge has plenty of payroll options, and Highflyer HR is one of the local names that keeps coming up. The company, which also goes by Highflyer Payroll, serves employers in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Lafayette, Houston and Fort Worth. So if you’re weighing Netchex vs. Highflyer HR, you’re comparing two companies with Louisiana roots and very different ways of delivering payroll.

Here’s the short of it. Highflyer runs its payroll on isolved, software built by another company. Netchex builds its own platform and staffs its own support team. That one difference shapes almost everything else on this page.

Last updated: September 2026. Highflyer HR information comes from the company’s own website and public business listings. Netchex figures come from G2 and Netchex’s own customer data.

The Short Version

Highflyer HR is a regional HR and payroll firm founded in 2015, according to public business listings. Its client logins run through isolved, and its homepage names isolved as its payroll software. Clients quoted on its site describe a responsive, easy-to-reach team. That’s a real strength. Don’t dismiss it.

Netchex was founded in Louisiana more than 20 years ago for the businesses that keep America running: restaurants, hotels, dealerships, clinics. It’s one company from the code to the phone line. The US-based, FPC-certified support team answers 90% of calls in under a minute, customers rate that service 4.8 out of 5, and Netchex holds an 8.9/10 Quality of Support score on G2.

Netchex vs. Highflyer HR on Payroll and Time

Picture a Friday in Lafayette. A manager just approved three late timecards, one cook picked up a shift at the second location, and payroll has to close by noon. What matters right then is whether time, pay rules and payroll all live in the same system.

Highflyer lists payroll and workforce management among its services, and both run on isolved. isolved’s People Cloud covers payroll and time well enough, so the core features are there. The catch is control. Highflyer doesn’t own the product, so its configuration options and release schedule come from isolved.

Netchex owns its payroll engine and its time and attendance module, and Scheduler lives in the same system. Hours, shift rules and overtime flow straight into payroll with no partner layer in between. OneScreen Payroll pulls onboarding, overtime, benefits and taxes into a single readiness view, and most teams finish a run in under 15 minutes.

HR, Benefits and Compliance

Highflyer’s site lists HR, benefits, ACA, recruiting and onboarding, and HR consulting. For a small business that wants one local firm fielding questions and paperwork, that’s an appealing bundle.

Netchex covers the same ground inside one platform. With its in-house benefits solution, enrollment, ACA tracking, onboarding and hiring through Netchex Recruit all share one employee record, so nobody keys a new hire’s details in three times. ACA Central tracks hours and coverage offers across full-time, part-time and seasonal staff, and Netchex files Forms 1094-C and 1095-C. (The IRS reporting rules for applicable large employers explain what’s required.)

Fewer handoffs. Fewer places for an error to hide.

Service and Support

This is where the two models really split. Highflyer’s clients speak well of its people. One calls the team “exceptionally professional and responsive and a real pleasure to work with” (Mary D., CC’s Coffee House, via Highflyer’s website). Local, familiar service is the whole point of a firm like this.

Still, isolved’s own support FAQ is clear about how its partner model works: employers who license isolved through a partner firm “receive support directly from that service provider”. So when the software itself misbehaves, the bureau sits in the middle. Most days that’s fine. On a bad payroll day, it’s one more handoff.

Netchex keeps it to one call. The company that writes the code also answers the phone. Ninety percent of calls are picked up in under a minute with first-call resolution, and every customer gets a dedicated Account Manager.

Netchex has the best support of any service provider I’ve ever worked with. There aren’t any hoops to jump through with Netchex support.

Implementation and Switching

Nobody switches payroll providers for fun. The real question is how much of the work lands on your desk.

Netchex implementation is free and project-managed, usually wrapping up in about six weeks, with free data imports and a 96% implementation satisfaction score. One team owns it from the first data pull to the first live payroll.

Highflyer doesn’t publish an implementation timeline. If you’re evaluating it, ask for one in writing, and ask which steps Highflyer’s team handles and which depend on isolved.

Who Each Is Built For

Highflyer HR may fit if: you’re a smaller employer in one of its Louisiana or Texas markets, you want a local HR consultant on call, and you’re comfortable with isolved as the software underneath.

Netchex may fit if: you run hourly or multi-location teams, you want one company accountable for the software and the service, and you’d rather not wonder whose problem it is when payroll hits a snag. For more on the platform itself, see our Netchex vs. isolved comparison.
