A home health agency with an office in Plymouth, Massachusetts opens a second one in Palm Harbor, Florida to chase warmer weather and a bigger caregiver pool. Now payroll has to work across two states, two tax setups, and a staff that splits time between both. That’s roughly the kind of client Brabo Payroll has built its business around. So when you’re weighing Netchex vs. Brabo Payroll, the real question isn’t just who’s cheaper. It’s who actually owns the software you’ll be relying on every payday.
Brabo Payroll runs out of two offices, one in Plymouth, MA and one in Palm Harbor, FL. It’s veteran-owned, and its site lists a “Best Places To Work 2026” mention. Netchex was founded in Louisiana more than 20 years ago for the businesses that keep America running: restaurants, hotels, dealerships, clinics. Both companies sell payroll. Only one of them builds it.
Last updated: September 2026. Brabo Payroll information comes from the company’s own website, the Better Business Bureau, and public listings. Netchex figures come from G2 and Netchex’s own customer data.
The Short Version
Brabo’s own site describes payroll processing, time and attendance, employee benefits administration, and insurance brokering, alongside HR support, all under one roof. That last part is genuinely unusual. Most payroll companies don’t also sell you insurance. Brabo does, through what looks like a combined payroll-and-benefits-brokerage model.
On the third-party side, Brabo carries an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and zero complaints closed in the past three years, though the BBB also shows zero customer reviews on file. A search snippet puts its Yelp rating at 4.5 stars, according to public listings, though the page itself wasn’t independently reachable. There’s no G2, Capterra, or Trustpilot profile to check against.
Netchex is one company from the code to the phone line. The US-based, FPC-certified support team answers 90% of calls in under a minute, customers rate that service 4.8 out of 5, and Netchex holds an 8.9/10 Quality of Support score on G2.
Company Overview
| Netchex | Brabo Payroll | |
| Roots | Louisiana, 20+ years | Plymouth, MA and Palm Harbor, FL |
| What it sells | Payroll, time, HR, and benefits, built in-house | Payroll, time and attendance, benefits, insurance brokering and HR support |
| Who builds the software | Netchex, in-house | Not disclosed on its site |
On that last row: Brabo doesn’t say what platform its payroll actually runs on. Its homepage references both Paylocity and ADP, and its own careers page runs on Paylocity’s applicant system, but neither confirms what Brabo processes client payroll on. That’s worth asking about directly before you sign anything.
Netchex vs. Brabo Payroll on Payroll and Time
Here’s a wrinkle worth flagging up front. There’s some public disagreement about when Brabo even started. Built In’s company profile lists a 2016 founding date. The Massachusetts BBB, separately, registers the legal entity behind it, Brabo Benefits, Inc., as roughly 11 years in business, which points to an April 2013 start. Neither source has been reconciled with the other, so take both with a grain of salt rather than leaning on either one.
What Brabo’s own site confirms is payroll processing, benefits tracking, time and attendance, and tax and regulatory handling. That covers the fundamentals most small employers need. What it doesn’t confirm is the software underneath. You’re trusting Brabo’s team, not necessarily evaluating a product you can research on your own.
Netchex writes its own payroll engine, and its own time and attendance module sits in the same system as Scheduler. When your Plymouth office runs a Saturday shift long, the hours and overtime flow straight into payroll instead of crossing between separate vendors’ products. OneScreen Payroll pulls onboarding, overtime, benefits and taxes into one readiness view before you run. Most teams wrap a run in under 15 minutes.

Insurance, Benefits and HR
This is where the two companies diverge the most. Brabo’s whole pitch is one roof for payroll and insurance: the same firm that runs your payroll also brokers your business, personal, or employee insurance. If you like the idea of one bill and one relationship covering both, that’s a real, structural advantage, not a marketing line.
Netchex takes a different approach. It doesn’t sell insurance itself. Instead, it works directly with the benefits broker you already have, or the one you’d rather keep independent of your payroll vendor. With its in-house benefits solution, enrollment, ACA tracking, onboarding and hiring through Netchex Recruit all share the same employee record, so a new hire’s details get entered once, not three times. ACA Central tracks hours and coverage offers across full-time, part-time and seasonal staff, and Netchex files Forms 1094-C and 1095-C directly.
Which model fits depends on what you want. Bundled and simple, or payroll and insurance kept separate on purpose.
| Feature | Netchex | Brabo Payroll |
| Benefits administration | ✅ In-house, on one employee record | ✅ Listed on its site |
| Insurance brokering | ✗ Works with your existing broker instead | ✅ Business, personal, and employee insurance |
| HR support | ✅ Onboarding and Netchex Recruit built in | ✅ Listed on its site |
Service and Support
Brabo leans on its veteran-owned status and its two-state footprint as reasons to trust a smaller shop with your payroll. One testimonial on its site, unattributed, puts it plainly: “Nothing about running a business is easy EXCEPT for working with Brabo.” A single unattributed quote isn’t proof of a pattern, but the BBB record backs up a clean service history: an A+ rating and zero complaints closed in the last three years.
What’s missing is independent, reviewable feedback. No G2 profile. No Capterra listing. No Trustpilot page. The BBB itself shows zero customer reviews on file. That doesn’t mean the service is bad. It means there isn’t much outside Brabo’s own site to check it against.
Netchex skips that gap. The people who answer the phone work for the company that wrote the code. Ninety percent of calls are picked up in under a minute with first-call resolution, and every customer has a dedicated Account Manager who knows the account.
Netchex has the best support of any service provider I’ve ever worked with. There aren’t any hoops to jump through with Netchex support.

Implementation and Switching
Switching payroll vendors mid-year is nobody’s favorite project. What matters is how much of the work lands on your desk versus theirs.
Netchex implementation is free and project-managed, usually wrapping up in about six weeks, with free data imports and a 96% implementation satisfaction score. One team owns it from the first data pull through the first live payroll.
Brabo doesn’t publish an implementation timeline anywhere on its site. If you’re comparing the two, ask Brabo directly how long onboarding takes and what you’ll be responsible for along the way.
Who Each Is Built For
Brabo Payroll may fit if: you’re a smaller employer in Massachusetts or Florida, you like the idea of one company handling both payroll and insurance, and you’re comfortable not knowing which software sits behind the scenes.
Netchex may fit if: you run hourly or multi-location teams, you want to see exactly who builds the platform you’re trusting with payroll, and you’d rather keep your insurance broker relationship separate from your payroll vendor. Netchex works directly with a client’s existing CPA and existing benefits broker.
Frequently Asked Questions
Brabo Payroll’s own site lists payroll processing, time and attendance, employee benefits administration, insurance brokering, and HR support, run out of offices in Plymouth, Massachusetts and Palm Harbor, Florida. The insurance piece is the standout: most payroll companies don’t also broker business, personal, and employee insurance under the same roof.
The sources don’t agree. Built In’s company profile lists 2016. Separately, the Massachusetts BBB registers the legal entity, Brabo Benefits, Inc., as roughly 11 years in business, pointing to an April 2013 start. Neither figure has been reconciled, so treat both as reported rather than confirmed.
Brabo doesn’t say. Its homepage references Paylocity and ADP, and its careers page runs on Paylocity’s hiring tools, but neither confirms the platform behind client payroll. Netchex builds its own platform instead of reselling one, so you know exactly who’s responsible for the software and the support.
Netchex implementation is free and project-managed and usually takes about six weeks, including free data imports. Customers give the process a 96% implementation satisfaction score. A dedicated team handles setup from the first data pull through the first live payroll, so the switch doesn’t fall on one office manager.
