Most payroll partner programs follow the same playbook:

You send a referral. The payroll provider closes the deal. The commission gets paid. Then everyone waits for the next opportunity.

That model worked when payroll was simply a way to pay employees and file taxes. It works no longer.

Two things have changed:

  1. Payroll software has expanded. It has become a system of records for employees. Multi-state tax withholding, federal/state/local filings, wage and hour compliance, worker classification, deductions, and garnishments. Every data stream brokers, CPAs, and consultants rely on is housed there.

Payroll should power business advisory — brokers, CPAs, financial advisors, HR consultants — instead of competing with their workstreams.

  1. Many payroll vendors are expanding into advisor territory. All-in-one HCM platforms now sell benefits, insurance, and retirement administration. Yesterday’s partners quickly turn into competitors.

The payroll partner program was designed for a world in which payroll vendors stayed in their lane. That world no longer exists. And the partner model no longer does a fair job of protecting the advisor/consultant’s business.

This is why Netchex made a few conscious choices in how we run partner relationships that puts brokers, financial advisors, CPAs, and HR consultants at the center:

The problems with conventional payroll partner programs are structural:

  • Many vendors run their own brokerage and explicitly disincentivize customers from bringing in an external broker

Netchex was built on the opposite premise.

We Don’t Compete with Our Partners

Netchex doesn’t run a benefits brokerage, and we have no plans to build one. The customer who needs benefits guidance gets it from the broker they choose.

This is a conscious choice. A payroll vendor that earns commission on benefits has reason to recommend the carriers it earns from.

Netchex is intentionally open. Clients bring their own brokers, and the broker-client relationship stays where it belongs.

For our broker partners, the client you refer to Netchex stays yours. The plans you design configure cleanly. Customization, renewals, carrier relationships, stay with you.

We Fit into Tools Partners Already Use

The advisor’s stack is not a Netchex stack. Brokers run their books on Employee Navigator, CPAs work in accounting platforms (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, or others), retirement consultants file 5500s out of recordkeeper systems.

The advisor’s productivity lives in those tools. A payroll vendor that isn’t plugged into them forces partners into manual reconciliation, duplicate data entry, and workflow workarounds that drain billable hours.

Netchex does not reinvent the wheel.

  • Deep 360-degree integration with Employee Navigator with single sign-on lets brokers and clients work the way they always have
  • Direct GL exports to QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite, and Oracle map data accurately to the right chart of accounts and post automatically after each payroll run
  • Direct EDI feeds connect the major carriers without manual reconciliation burden

Our open API connects with 500+ systems and public documentation makes custom integrations easier to build. Ultimately, Netchex partners keep working out of the tools they already trust.

We Understand Complex, Deskless Workforces

For brokers, CPAs, or HR consultants, the wrong payroll recommendations can impact their trust with a client.

This gap becomes more critical in deskless industries:

  • Restaurant groups work with tip-credit logic and predictive scheduling rules
  • Healthcare providers assign multiple pay rates per employee, layer on shift differentials, and pay on-call premiums
  • Automotive dealerships calculate commissions and spiffs across sales, service, parts, and finance

When payroll providers don’t understand these realities, the burden often falls on the advisor.

We’ve spent years building for these environments because many of our clients operate in them every day. For the partner, this means you are not the only person in the room who understands your client’s industry.

When you recommend Netchex for a deskless client, you aren’t putting your weight behind a platform that seems good. You’re recommending the tool that 7,500+ organizations already run on.

We Become an Extension of Your Revenue Org

A payroll vendor that does not compete with you, has no reasons to withhold what it knows about a shared prospect. Netchex doesn’t just do revenue-sharing on referrals, we actually invest in your growth.

In practice:

  • We help grow our partners’ books by introducing them to the right clients
  • Every Netchex partner gets a named Partner Manager whose role is the partner’s success
  • When a deal overlaps, we share what we know and build joint defensibility that makes our unified solution harder to displace
  • And of course, we also offer rev-share

In return, we expect our partners to share what only they can see: their clients’ payroll needs, challenges, and requests.

Our goal isn’t simply to receive referrals. It is to help create more opportunities for everyone involved.

We Protect Our Partners’ Reputation

When a broker, CPA, consultant, or advisor recommends a payroll provider, they’re putting their credibility behind that recommendation.

A payroll error, a missed tax-filing deadline, or a wage miscalculation has serious implications. IN 2024 alone, the IRS assessed over $26.8 billion in civil penalties on businesses purely on employment taxes.

Bad payroll recommendations, therefore, also reflects poorly on the judgment of whoever recommended it.

That’s why service and execution matter.

Successful implementations, responsive support, accurate payroll processing, and dependable tax administration aren’t just operational metrics, they are the basis of the long-term relationships we build with our customers:

  • With a 98% customer satisfaction (CSAT) score, Netchex recommendations keep looking good long after the referral is made
  • 99% of Netchex clients hit their target first payroll date, ensuring that implementation (the first-time customers experience our product) offers confidence
  • Unlike most other payroll vendors, we offer human-first localized support instead of redirecting to a chatbot, ensuring that even when questions arise, nobody waits on an unanswered support ticket

We earn credibility through service. So, every deal our partners and we work together is a high-value and long-term proposition.

For Payroll, Partnerships Are as Important as the Product

Payroll and Human Capital Management (HCM) software are, at their core, human-first systems. They serve real people and processes: HR admins, employees, managers, and advisors whose work directly impacts every employee.

Being human-first means respecting nuance. No two industries, businesses, or locations are alike. Each needs its own tax strategy, regulatory posture, benefits design, and pay structure.

A payroll product that promises to be “everything for everyone” has no room to tailor.

It also has no real partner program. Because every advisor it doesn’t replace, it eventually competes with.

That’s why payroll partnerships shouldn’t be built on referrals alone. They need a product that fits how partners actually work and a vendor that finds the right wedges to help partners grow.

Ultimately, our partners offer expert advice and services tailored to the bespoke needs of our customers. Netchex respects that expertise. And we are to make advisors more valuable, not less.

Because great partners don’t complete a transaction.

They help complete the solution.
