A landscaping crew in Fitchburg loads the trucks before sunrise, and by June the owner has added three seasonal hires just to keep up with mowing season. She doesn’t have time to babysit a payroll system. She wants it to work and she wants a real person on the phone when it doesn’t. That’s the kind of small Massachusetts business Vision Payroll has built its name around. So if you’re weighing Netchex vs. Vision Payroll, it helps to know what’s actually running underneath each one.
Vision Payroll is an independent payroll bureau based in Leominster, Massachusetts, serving small and mid-sized businesses across landscaping, construction, manufacturing, restaurants and nonprofits. Netchex is a different kind of company: it writes and owns its own payroll, time, HR and benefits software instead of reselling someone else’s.
Last updated: September 2026. Vision Payroll information comes from the company’s own website and independent review platforms. Netchex figures come from G2 and Netchex’s own customer data.
The Short Version
Vision Payroll’s contact page lists offices at 14 Manning Ave in Leominster, with its About page also referencing nearby Fitchburg. The company doesn’t give a consistent founding date across its own materials, so we won’t guess at one here. What is consistent is the pitch: personal service for owners who don’t want to feel like an account number. Its site puts it plainly: “You’re never a number at Vision Payroll.” For a landscaping crew or a small manufacturer that’s used to a local relationship, that’s a real strength.
Netchex was founded in Louisiana more than 20 years ago for the businesses that keep America running: restaurants, hotels, dealerships, clinics. It’s one company from the code to the phone line. The US-based, FPC-certified support team answers 90% of calls in under a minute, customers rate that service 4.8 out of 5, and Netchex holds an 8.9/10 Quality of Support score on G2.

Netchex vs. Vision Payroll on Payroll and Time
Vision Payroll’s products page lists online payroll, tax filing, direct deposit, pay cards, general-ledger import, pay-as-you-go workers’ comp, employee self-service and a My HR Support Center. Time and attendance runs through a separate vendor, Swipeclock, covering biometric, web clock and badge options. That’s a broad menu for a small bureau, and pay-as-you-go workers’ comp in particular is a nice touch most competitors don’t bother offering.
Here’s the catch. Payroll comes from isolved and time tracking comes from Swipeclock, two different companies stitched together under Vision Payroll’s brand. When something breaks, you’re never quite sure which vendor actually owns the fix.
Netchex writes its own payroll engine and its own time and attendance module, and Scheduler lives in the same system. A landscaper’s overtime hours flow straight into payroll without crossing from one company’s product into another’s. OneScreen Payroll pulls onboarding, overtime, benefits and taxes into one readiness view. Most teams wrap a run in under 15 minutes.
| Feature | Netchex | Vision Payroll |
| Payroll and tax filing | ✅ Built by Netchex | ✅ Delivered on isolved |
| Time and attendance | ✅ Native, with Scheduler | ✅ Through Swipeclock (separate vendor) |
| Platform built by the provider | ✅ | ✗ isolved builds it |
HR, Benefits and Compliance
Vision Payroll’s site lists Section 125 plans, retirement plans through partners, and a My HR Support Center alongside employee self-service. That’s a reasonable spread for a small-business bureau, and it shows the company has thought past just cutting checks.
Netchex keeps all of it on one employee record. With its in-house benefits solution, enrollment, ACA tracking, onboarding and hiring through Netchex Recruit share the same data, so a new hire’s details get entered once instead of three times. ACA Central tracks hours and coverage offers across full-time, part-time and seasonal staff, which matters for a landscaping crew that doubles in size every spring. Netchex also files Forms 1094-C and 1095-C. (The IRS reporting rules for applicable large employers spell out what’s required.)
Fewer systems talking past each other. Fewer year-end surprises.
| Feature | Netchex | Vision Payroll |
| Benefits | ✅ In-house benefits solution | ✅ Section 125 and retirement plans, via partners |
| HR support | ✅ Onboarding and Netchex Recruit on one record | ✅ My HR Support Center, on isolved |
Service and Support
Vision Payroll’s customers genuinely like working with them. “The people are extremely knowledgeable, professional and really a pleasure to work with,” one client wrote (Charlie, Rockwell Roofing). Another called out the site itself: “Vision Payroll is the best. The website is easy to use, and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly.” (Jayne, Landry’s Bicycles)
very efficient and easy to communicate with them, been 6 months and very happy since switching from paychex
– pasquale, Birdeye review
Vision Payroll also carries a 4.6 out of 5 rating on Birdeye across 34 reviews, and the Better Business Bureau lists it as “Not BBB Accredited” but with zero complaints closed in the last three years. That’s a clean record for a company its size.
The structural question is the same one every isolved reseller faces. isolved’s own support FAQ says employers who license isolved through a partner firm “receive support directly from that service provider”. Most days that means Vision Payroll’s friendly team picks up. But when the problem lives inside the software itself, it has to travel from Vision Payroll to isolved and back.
Netchex skips that relay entirely. The people who answer the phone work for the company that wrote the code. Ninety percent of calls are picked up in under a minute with first-call resolution, and every customer gets a dedicated Account Manager.
Netchex has the best support of any service provider I’ve ever worked with. There aren’t any hoops to jump through with Netchex support.

Implementation and Switching
Nobody looks forward to switching payroll providers mid-season. The real question is how much of the work lands on you.
Netchex implementation is free and project-managed, usually wrapping up in about six weeks, with free data imports and a 96% implementation satisfaction score. One team owns it from the first data pull to the first live payroll.
Vision Payroll doesn’t publish an implementation timeline on its site. If you’re comparing the two, ask Vision Payroll for one in writing, and ask specifically which steps it handles versus what depends on isolved.
Who Each Is Built For
Vision Payroll may fit if: you’re a smaller Massachusetts business, you value a local firm that knows your name, and you’re comfortable with isolved and Swipeclock running underneath the relationship.
Netchex may fit if: you run seasonal, hourly or multi-location teams, you want one company accountable for the platform and the support, and you’d like time, scheduling and payroll living in a single system. For more on the isolved side, see our Netchex vs. isolved comparison.
Frequently Asked Questions
Vision Payroll runs its payroll and employee self-service on isolved and handles time and attendance through a separate vendor, Swipeclock. So two different companies build the technology behind the service, and Vision Payroll sells, configures and supports it locally. Netchex builds its own platform instead of reselling one, so the software and the support come from a single company.
According to isolved’s own support FAQ, employers who license isolved through a reseller get support directly from that partner, not isolved itself. That puts the local firm between you and the software maker for anything inside the product. With Netchex, the company that builds the software also answers the phone, 90% of calls in under a minute.
It can be, especially for a single-location business that values a personal relationship with its provider. Reviewers on Birdeye rate it 4.6 out of 5 across 34 reviews. As a company adds locations or leans harder on time tracking, it’s worth asking whether a two-vendor stack, isolved plus Swipeclock, still fits, or whether one native system would simplify things.
Netchex implementation is free, project-managed, and usually takes about six weeks, including free data imports. Customers give the process a 96% implementation satisfaction score. A dedicated team handles setup from the first data pull through the first live payroll, so the switch doesn’t fall on one office manager alone.
