Say you run a senior living community outside Seattle, or a nonprofit in Hickory, North Carolina, PayNW’s two home markets. Payroll has to land right every single pay period, benefits enrollment can’t confuse a stretched HR team, and when a question comes up, you want someone who already knows your account. That’s the kind of employer PayNW has built its business around. If you’re weighing Netchex vs. PayNW, here’s what actually sits underneath each platform.
One name note first. PayNW used to go by PayNorthwest. The site was rebuilt under the new name, but a few older testimonials and login pages still reference the old one, so don’t be surprised if you spot both.
The core difference comes down to who built the software. PayNW runs on UKG Ready. Its site doesn’t name the platform outright, but a UKG Partner Network badge sits in its footer, and its payroll login uses the same tenant-based web address pattern other UKG Ready resellers use. Netchex builds its own payroll, time, HR and benefits platform, and it staffs its own support team.
Last updated: September 2026. PayNW information comes from the company’s own website and public listings. Netchex figures come from G2, Capterra and Netchex’s own customer data.
The Short Version
PayNW says it was founded in Seattle in 2007 and has grown from, in its own words, a regional payroll company into a national HCM provider. It now works out of two offices, one in Bellevue, Washington and one in Hickory, North Carolina, and it lists senior living, nonprofit, healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality and several other industries among its clients. One client testimonial on its site describes handling payroll for 1,300 employees across 6 states, so PayNW clearly reaches well beyond the Pacific Northwest.
Netchex was founded in Louisiana more than 20 years ago for the businesses that keep America running: restaurants, hotels, dealerships, clinics. It’s one company from the code to the phone line. The US-based, FPC-certified support team answers 90% of calls in under a minute, customers rate that service 4.8 out of 5, and Netchex holds an 8.9/10 Quality of Support score on G2.

Netchex vs. PayNW on Payroll and Time
PayNW’s site lists payroll, time and labor management, scheduling, HR, benefits, leave management, an LMS, performance management, talent acquisition, a mobile app and open APIs, plus payroll tax registration and background checks. That’s a wide net for one provider, and reviewers back up the breadth. Capterra reviewers describe it as a comprehensive HR suite covering the employee lifecycle, from applicant tracking through payroll and performance.
What PayNW can’t do is decide what the software becomes next. It configures and supports UKG Ready, but UKG owns the roadmap, and any bug or delay has to travel from PayNW’s team back to UKG before it actually gets fixed.
Netchex writes its own payroll engine and its own time and attendance module, with Scheduler built into the same system. When a shift runs long, the hours and overtime flow straight into payroll instead of crossing between two vendors’ products. OneScreen Payroll pulls onboarding, overtime, benefits and taxes into one readiness view, and most teams wrap a run in under 15 minutes.
| Feature | Netchex | PayNW |

HR, Benefits and Compliance
PayNW’s list includes benefits management, leave management, an LMS and performance management, alongside HR services and labor law posters. Its site also promotes open APIs, so a client running its own systems can connect them without much friction. One HR manager’s testimonial on PayNW’s site credits the platform with importing payroll straight into a general ledger, calling it a big time saver for a team running multiple cost centers.
Netchex keeps its version of all that on one employee record. With its in-house benefits solution, enrollment, ACA tracking, onboarding and hiring through Netchex Recruit share the same data, so a new hire’s details get entered once, not three times. ACA Central tracks hours and coverage offers across full-time, part-time and seasonal staff, and Netchex files Forms 1094-C and 1095-C. (The IRS reporting rules for applicable large employers lay out what’s actually required.)
Fewer systems talking past each other. Less re-entering the same numbers twice.
| Feature | Netchex | PayNW |
| Benefits | ✅ In-house benefits solution | ✅ Benefits management listed on its site |
| HR tools | ✅ Onboarding and Netchex Recruit on one record | ✅ HR services and leave management, on UKG Ready |
Service and Support
Service is a big part of PayNW’s pitch, too. Its homepage tells prospects they’re “more than just a number,” pointing out that many providers make promises and then disappear once onboarding ends. Reviewers largely back that up. Capterra reviewers list excellent customer support and implementation services as a key strength, and one customer summed up the time savings simply.
I actually estimate that I save two days per pay period!
– PayNW customer testimonial, paynw.com
The catch is the one every reseller runs into eventually. PayNW’s team can walk you through the screens and answer most day-to-day questions. But when something is actually broken inside UKG Ready, the fix has to come from UKG, not from PayNW.
Netchex skips that extra step. The people who answer the phone work for the company that wrote the code. Ninety percent of calls are picked up in under a minute with first-call resolution, and every customer has a dedicated Account Manager.
Netchex has the best support of any service provider I’ve ever worked with. There aren’t any hoops to jump through with Netchex support.

Implementation and Switching
Nobody enjoys switching payroll providers. What actually matters is how much of that work lands on your desk.
Netchex implementation is free and project-managed, usually wrapping up in about six weeks, with free data imports and a 96% implementation satisfaction score. One team owns it from the first data pull through the first live payroll.
PayNW doesn’t publish an implementation timeline on its site. If you’re comparing the two, ask PayNW directly how long onboarding takes, and how much of it depends on UKG’s own setup process versus PayNW’s own team.
Who Each Is Built For
PayNW may fit if: you want an established UKG Ready reseller with a genuinely personal service pitch, you’re comfortable with the software decisions sitting one layer removed from your day-to-day contact, and your organization fits one of the many verticals PayNW lists, from senior living to distribution.
Netchex may fit if: you run hourly or multi-location teams, you want one company accountable for both the platform and the support, and you’d like time, scheduling and payroll in a single system wherever your locations sit. Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. PayNW rebranded from PayNorthwest, though a few older testimonials and login pages on its site still use the earlier name. PayNW says it was founded in Seattle in 2007 and has since grown into a national HCM provider, with offices in Bellevue, Washington and Hickory, North Carolina serving employers across multiple states.
PayNW’s site doesn’t name its core software outright, but a UKG Partner Network badge in its footer and its tenant-based payroll login both point to UKG Ready. PayNW configures and services that platform, but UKG builds it and owns the roadmap. Netchex builds and owns its own platform instead of reselling one.
PayNW’s own team handles day-to-day questions and describes a personalized service model on its site. But when an issue lives inside the software itself, PayNW has to route it back to UKG for a fix. Netchex’s support team works for the company that built the platform, and 90% of calls are answered in under a minute.
Netchex implementation is free and project-managed and usually takes about six weeks, including free data imports. Customers give the process a 96% implementation satisfaction score. A dedicated team handles setup from the first data pull through the first live payroll, so the switch doesn’t fall entirely on your HR staff.
