Overview
Louisiana underwent a significant overhaul of its income tax system effective January 1, 2025. The state transitioned from a multi-bracket progressive system to a single flat tax rate, simplifying withholding for employers and payroll administrators.
State Income Tax (SIT)
Effective January 1, 2025, Louisiana imposes a flat state income tax rate of 3.09% on all earned wages. The amount withheld is based on the employee’s filing status and the standard deduction they claim on Form L-4. Standard deductions are $12,875 for Single and $25,750 for Married Filing Jointly.

Supplemental Wages
Louisiana supports the following supplemental calculation methods. Supplemental wages such as bonuses and commissions will be calculated using the applicable method.
Employer State Unemployment Tax (SUTA)
Your assigned SUTA rate will be based on your company’s experience with unemployment claims. New employers typically start at the default rate of 0%.
