Your bookkeeper calls in a panic because a state filing bounced back, and you realize you don’t actually know who’s supposed to catch that before it happens. That’s the moment most owners start looking hard at who’s really behind their payroll software. If you’re comparing Netchex vs. Payentry, the question underneath the question is who builds the platform and who answers when something breaks.

Payentry is the payroll and HR platform built by MPAY LLC, a company that also sells the same technology to other payroll bureaus under their own brands. Netchex builds one platform and runs it under one name, for every customer, everywhere.

Last updated: September 2026. Payentry information comes from the company’s own website and public listings. Netchex figures come from G2 and Netchex’s own customer data.

The Short Version

Payentry is the SaaS product of MPAY LLC, which its own site describes as “a privately held corporation founded in 1994” that supports “Millennium licensees and their business clients throughout the United States.” The company is headquartered in Peachtree Corners, Georgia, and it’s in the middle of a real transition: on September 11, 2025, Payentry announced a merger with Corporate Payroll Services, and the two brands are set to fully unify under the Payentry name sometime in mid-to-late 2026. Until then, both keep operating under their own names.

That’s not a knock. Owning its technology instead of reselling someone else’s is a genuine strength, and Payentry leans into it by licensing that same platform to other bureaus and offering it white-label. But a business signing on right now is joining a company mid-merger, with two executive teams and two brand names still sorting out what “one company” looks like.

Netchex was founded in Louisiana more than 20 years ago for the businesses that keep America running: restaurants, hotels, dealerships, clinics. One brand, one platform, one team, and it’s been that way the whole time. The US-based, FPC-certified support team answers 90% of calls in under a minute, customers rate that service 4.8 out of 5, and Netchex holds an 8.9/10 Quality of Support score on G2.

Netchex vs. Payentry on Payroll and Time

Payentry’s own site lists payroll processing, tax filing, garnishments, new hire reporting, and employee self-service through a mobile app, plus a newer interface it calls “NextGen.” Time and attendance and broader workforce management are listed as separate service lines. For a business that just wants payroll off its plate, that’s a reasonable set of tools.

What’s harder to pin down from the outside is how tightly those pieces actually talk to each other, since Payentry doesn’t publish a detailed breakdown of how its modules connect.

Netchex writes its own payroll engine and its own time and attendance module, and Scheduler lives in that same system. When a shift runs long, the hours and overtime flow straight into payroll without crossing between separate products. OneScreen Payroll pulls onboarding, overtime, benefits and taxes into one readiness view, and most teams finish a run in under 15 minutes.

HR, Benefits and Compliance

Payentry offers benefits consulting through a division it calls Payentry Financial Services, along with commercial insurance and retirement plan services. That’s a broader menu than plenty of small payroll shops carry.

Netchex keeps enrollment, ACA tracking, onboarding and hiring through Netchex Recruit on one employee record, so a new hire’s details get entered once instead of three times. ACA Central tracks hours and coverage offers across full-time, part-time and seasonal staff, and Netchex files Forms 1094-C and 1095-C directly. (The IRS reporting rules for applicable large employers spell out what’s required of applicable large employers.) Netchex also works directly with a client’s own CPA and existing benefits broker, rather than requiring you to route everything through an in-house division.

Service and Support

Payentry assigns each client a “Client Advocate” and promises, on its own site, “No hidden fees. No complicated contracts.” One Capterra reviewer backs up the service side of that pitch:

I have never spoke to anyone in customer service that ever appears to have a bad day.

– Capterra reviewer, via Payentry’s Capterra profile

Not every review is glowing, though, and fairness cuts both ways. Another Capterra reviewer put it plainly:

It is not geared toward people management, just a payroll company.

– Capterra reviewer, via Payentry’s Capterra profile

That’s a fair distinction to weigh if you need more than payroll out of your provider. Payentry’s Capterra rating sits at 4.0 out of 5, though it’s built on a small sample of just three reviews, so treat it as a data point rather than a verdict.

Netchex gives every customer a dedicated Account Manager, and the people who answer the phone work for the company that wrote the code. Ninety percent of calls are picked up in under a minute with first-call resolution.

Netchex has the best support of any service provider I’ve ever worked with. There aren’t any hoops to jump through with Netchex support.

Implementation and Switching

Payentry doesn’t publish an implementation timeline on its site. If you’re comparing providers, ask for one in writing, and ask specifically how the CPS merger might affect which team actually handles your setup over the next year.

Netchex implementation is free and project-managed, usually wrapping up in about six weeks, with free data imports and a 96% implementation satisfaction score. One team owns it from the first data pull to the first live payroll, and that team isn’t in the middle of merging with another company.

Who Each Is Built For

Payentry may fit if: you want a provider that owns its technology rather than reselling someone else’s, you’re comfortable with a company mid-merger sorting out its brand and structure over the next year, and a Peachtree Corners-based team fits your needs.

Netchex may fit if: you run hourly or multi-location teams, you want one company, under one name, accountable for both the platform and the support, and you’d like time, scheduling and payroll in a single system.
